Some residents of Lehigh Acres, in far eastern Lee County, are currently renewing efforts to incorporate the area, making it an independent city for the very first time. It’s, of course, not the first time the idea has been brought up. Incorporation was voted down by residents in 1996 with only about 10,0000 ballots cast, then most recently in 2008, when the issue lost by 58-percent of the vote, with double the number of registered voters eligible to cast a vote.
